Here is the City website listing about the TRT money. I have a message in to the Finance Director requesting more information.

The City of Petersburg declares that “Additional Funds” from the Transient Room Tax Receipts of $11,271 are available to qualified incorporated, non-profit organizations with long-term visitor oriented goals. Applications and instructions can be picked up at the City Finance Department, Municipal Building. For questions contact # 772-4425 x25. Application period closes at noon on February 19, 2010.

  1. The Arts Council has received TRT grants in the past, and is eligible to apply for this money. I have received the application and will bring the info to our Feb. 9 meeting.

  2. Susan has contacted me about applying for the TRT funds. I will be asking the PAC board to vote on that request. I appreciate Susan's call. It is important that each committee submit all important decisions to PAC, and in particular the IRS code requires that all expenditure and receipt of funds, be voted on by the board. I would add that before the plan is published that it should be voted on by the board, but I believe that we have a March 9th meeting for that. The kicker is that PAC-PAW (for the Centennial Project) asked me the day before to seek some TRT funds for them so I will be asking the board how we should proceed on that, as well as asking PAC-PAW how much they think that they would need. It is my understanding that we would like to seek as many funds for this project as possible, but it might be better to have an idea of how big the project is in scope or how much funds will be needed to accomplish each of the 4 areas to submit to the TRT Grant Committee, so that they know how big this project is.

  3. Michele, you are correct, per our original project schedule, a meeting March 9 for the PAC board to review and approve or request changes to this committee's proposals for each of the four project sites prior to them being revealed to other concerned parties.

Regarding your point above "... each committee submit all important decisions to PAC, and in particular the IRS code requires that all expenditure and receipt of funds, be voted on by the board." with relation to the Port Dock Project, are we to understand that we shall gain board approval to invest funds throughout the project, at each step? Or is it that once PAC has approved the project proposal and associated budget, this committee is able to invest the project funds to accomplish the agreed project without step-by-step approval.

I just want to be clear on this point so as we move forward our committee is acting as PAC would wish.

  4. Susan,
About the last question I'd have to say - I honestly don't know. This getting back on track needs to be a board thing so I will submit that to them for an answer as well. Hopefully we can give you some good direction of what we are expecting, maybe in writing?
